Where Did the Times on the Bus Stops Go?

You might have noticed some changes at your local bus stops. We’re here to explain these changes, ensuring that you can understand and adjust easily!

What’s New?

We’ve updated our Public Bus routes, which includes a change to the bus stop signs you’ve grown accustomed to. Now instead of seeing a specific time on each bus stop sign, you’ll see specific arrival times only at certain key stops along each route. These are known as “Timing Points”.

Why the Change?

These timing points are crucial for keeping our buses on schedule. They act as checkpoints for our drivers to ensure they’re neither too early nor too late. This means for stops between these points, the bus might slightly adjust its speed to stay on time.

Understanding Your Bus Schedule:

How Do I Know When the Bus Will Arrive?

The best way to estimate the bus’s arrival time at your stop is to know the times it’s scheduled to be at the timing point before your stop. This can give you a good ballpark of when the bus will be there.

Example 1

Imagine you need to catch the Residential Rider bus from Montrose Regional Airport at 8:00 AM, but the airport stop doesn’t list a specific time. The bus departs from the Boys and Girls Club at 8:15 AM, the last timing point before reaching the airport. To ensure you catch the bus, plan to be at your stop by 8:15 AM. Although the bus needs to make a few stops between the Boys and Girls Club and the airport, giving you a small window after 8:15 for the bus to arrive, arriving by 8:15 AM guarantees you won’t miss your ride.

Example 2

Let’s say it’s 8:05 AM and you’re planning to catch the Business Express Route from Townsend Ave. at Colorado. You’re trying to figure out when the bus will arrive, but the stop doesn’t have a listed time.

Looking at the schedule, you see that the Justice Center is a timing point, with Bus 1 leaving there at 8:40 AM and Bus 2 at 8:10 AM. Since Townsend Ave. at Colorado is after the Justice Center, you’d use these times to guide you.

For Bus 1, aiming to be at your stop just after 8:40 AM would be too late since that’s the time Bus 1 leaves the Justice Center. For Bus 2, you should aim to be at your stop a bit before 8:10 AM because it leaves the Justice Center at that time.

However, to ensure you don’t miss your bus, the best practice is to arrive at your stop a few minutes before the earlier bus departs from its last timing point. So, in this case, being at Townsend Ave. at Colorado by 8:05 AM is wise to catch Bus 2. This gives you a buffer and ensures you won’t miss it as it comes through after leaving the Justice Center.
